Dear Parents & Carers
Over the years I have often written about the various roles parents undertake to prepare their children for the vigours of secondary school life and beyond. One of the roles is that we need to increasingly make ourselves become a little less redundant each year, because believe me one of the rewards of perseverance, consistent & fair consequences, wisely choosing when and where to intervene, especially in the teenage years, is…they leave. This may sound a little harsh but it’s not like you want them to leave (well …there are moments!) but the satisfaction gained from witnessing in a very short period of time a person who relied upon their parents for every single thing from basic survival needs to formal attire, evolve into a confident, independent and happy young adult, is certainly worth the effort and the odd heart wrenching decision.
Now that we have reached the halfway mark of the term, it is common to see kids start to fade a little. Homework seems to go on forever, school projects suddenly become the spark of family disputes, friendships at school may be tested and feelings may take a few hits from comments that at the beginning of the term were easily dismissed or ignored, but now with tolerance levels getting low, kids tend to take things a little more personally. This is a time too when parents and teachers need to heighten those tolerance levels in order to maintain peace and harmony.
One of the difficulties faced by young children, is the ability to know the difference between telling tales and reporting incidents which teachers need to know about. Generally, kids in Prep to Year 2 will tell you everything. However, depending on the maturity level of students as they get older, they begin to understand the difference. For some kids, peer influence is a major contributor in regard to their willingness to “dob” on their mates or not. Consequently, while kids are trying to work all this out, there will be times when reportable incidents go “un-reported”. A good rule of thumb to use is that if you feel physically or emotionally hurt by actions or words of others then it is a reportable incident. Alternatively, if you were able to handle it at the time with learnt protective behaviour strategies then involving others may only lead to escalating or fanning the flames of the issue.
It is important to acknowledge children’s feelings but as adults we need to be aware of not becoming too involved in an issue that should belong to them. The key is to place things in context. Is it an overreaction of something minor due to tiredness, stress etc.? Is it attention seeking behaviour or is it a real concern? Definitely not an easy task for parents to do but assisting kids to resolve their own disputes is a wonderful life lesson and a stressbuster for parents. This is a BIG FAMILY strategy. If you had more than 4 kids, you would be too busy to respond to children’s tales of the less than serious variety. Here are some responses to try when a child comes to you with a tale or story about the dastardly, terrible things that may have occurred at school or between siblings:
The Disaster Scale:
“Where does this fit on the disaster scale from 1 to 10?”
Kids can easily blow issues out of proportion so that a child taking a siblings’ sock is suddenly two rungs above a violent hurricane and losing socks is suddenly the worst thing that can happen. The Disaster Scale helps kids gain a little perspective.
Invite them to solve the issue themselves:
“Can you handle this yourself? Is this something you can deal with?
You’ll never know if you don’t give them a go! Put the issue back on the kids to resolve. It’s not that you don’t want to help but really some things don’t need your help!
The shock tactic:
“What would you like me to do about this?”
This is my favourite response as it puts the onus back on to the child. Be prepared for surprises though as some kids just want you to send their siblings away to boarding school!
Problem-ownership:
“Does this problem really involve you?”
Some children just love to get involved in disputes that don’t involve them but they love to get a certain ‘sibling into trouble’. Don’t be drawn into such disputes or else you will soon be doing the ‘sibling dance’ with them, with the ‘tell taler’ taking the lead.
Put them in the same boat:
“I’ll listen to both of you when you can tell me the same story.”
This is the first step in the conflict resolution cycle. If two children have a tale of woe get them to agree on the story they tell. This is usually enough to resolve the dispute.
The pen and paper approach:
“Can you write down what happened?"
Give one child a pen and the other a piece of paper and invite them to write down exactly what happened. A considered written response will be taken very seriously by parents.
Of course, no single strategy will work overnight and like us every child, teenager and young adults even the confident ones, will have their ups and downs. It’s the strategies and support they receive along the way that will ultimately see them through the so called tough times. Parenting is extremely hard work and at times the hardest decisions, even though they might not be the most popular decisions are the best for children in the long term. Becoming increasingly redundant as parents is not an easy path but it is one of life’s necessities for parents and their children.
School Fees
Term Two’s school fee and levy invoices were emailed to all families a couple of weeks ago. Please double check your emails including you spam or junk mail just in case it has landed in either of those folders. If you have not received an invoice for Term Two, please contact the school office asap so we can identify the glitch and reissue the invoice.
My sincere appreciation is extended to all families who continue to honour their financial obligation to the school. Timely payment allows the school to continue to provide the best possible resources for all the kids who attend. It would be most helpful if all outstanding school fees could be paid by the end of this month. Thank you for your continued support.
Athletics Carnival
I am really looking forward to next week’s athletics events. These days are always very enjoyable, that’s if the weather remains above freezing point! The kids are certainly excited and ready for some friendly competition between the sports houses. A big thank you to Mrs Salisbury and teaching staff for their time in providing additional coaching sessions in the lead up to the carnival. My appreciation also to Mrs Salisbury for her tremendous efforts in organizing the carnival.
For all information you need to know about the upcoming Athletics carnivals please refer to the P.E. section of the newsletter. The carnival is run over three separate days and parents are most welcome to attend.
Day 1. Monday 31st May (O’Quinn St.) Grades 3-6 All track events, long & high jump
Day 2. Tuesday 1st June (O’Quinn St.) Grades 4-6 Discus & shot put
Day 3. Thursday 3rd June (School oval) Prep to Year 2 sprint races
Family Bush Dance
Just in case you missed the communication sent home last week, the P&F are organising a Family Bush Dance on Friday 11th June here in the hall from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Tickets are only $5 per person (4yrs & under are free), however we need to cap the numbers to 300 people, so to avoid disappointment jump on to https://www.trybooking.com/BRKKD to purchase your tickets. Please refer to the attached flyer in this newsletter for further details. Should be a great family night out.
A reminder that the girls have only two options when wearing the formal winter uniform – navy blue tights or long navy blue socks. Boys also have two options – long navy blue slacks (not tracksuit pants) or their usual navy blue dress shorts with long navy blue socks.
School Traffic Zone
Just a friendly reminder to be forever mindful of the 40 km speed zone when driving around the school precinct. Also, remember to use the left in left out rule when accessing the main carpark or the Church carpark. If drivers follow this course of direction, traffic flow is far safer and more efficient. Signs have been positioned to remind drivers of correct direction of travel in and out of the carparks. Patient and considerate driving and parking practices around the school saves lives.
Principal Performance Review
Catholic School Principals are required to undergo an individual performance review every four to five years. As this is my 10th year at Lourdes, I’m up for another review. I thank all staff and parents who took the opportunity to provide feedback to me via the recent survey that was sent to all families. Your words of affirmation and support were overwhelming and most rewarding to read. Your recommendations for areas to work on over the next few years has provided me with additional direction for the future. A review panel will be visiting the school on Tuesday 8th June to interview all staff and a random selection of parents, students and parish staff. Feedback from these interviews will provide further support to the continuous improvement of my role as Principal.
Major Building Project Update
An invite for tenders was issued last month. Quotes from the shortlisted tenders are due by the end of next week and a final decision on the successful tender will be made the week following. Commencement date for construction still remains at the beginning of the September school holidays. Further information regarding the project and images of what it will look like will hopefully be available by the end of term. These plans, drawing etc, will be included in upcoming newsletters and hard copies displayed around the school for your perusal. Information regarding the relocation of certain classes and changes to the school routine will be provided early Term 3. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the upcoming project.
Thanks for reading……Chris
Communicate as both a Learner and Global Citizen
Fortunately at Lourdes, we have a team of dedicated teachers who volunteer their time outside their required hours to collaboratively share ideas and learn together, to not only impact their own professional growth and teaching, but also impact the learning of our students. We not only have year level teaching teams who meet in their non-contact time whilst students are at Specialist lessons, but we also have a Teaching & Learning Team and a Tech Team with different teachers who meet after school at different times throughout the term. Together as a team we collectively design ways to move teaching and learning forward in positive ways to support a culture of learning and thinking across the school.
At our last Teaching & Learning Team meeting, teachers thought of ways to engage our students in the Lourdes’ traits of a learner and global citizen who are ‘CALLed to Think.’ The C in our ‘CALLed to Think’ acronym stands for Communicate. For the remainder of this term, each class will focus on the traits of learner and global citizen who Communicates. Awards may emphasise aspects of this element and year level or class meetings may have this as a focus for discussion. You may even hear Mr Golightly or myself talk about this at assembly. For Term Three, the focus will turn to ‘Act’ for the first half and ‘Look’ for the second half of the term.’
In a previous newsletter, I have written about what it means to Communicate here at Lourdes which you can read about here. https://www.ololtwb.catholic.edu.au/newsletter/article/69?skin=1
Below is a copy of the Communicate as both a Learner and a Global Citizen poster which you may want to print and display in your home to be used as a talking point and as a reminder for your child to think how they can demonstrate these traits. If you would like more information, please talk to your child’s teacher or come and see me.
Thanks for reading.

Faith & Religious Education News
Last week 42 of our Year 4, 5 and 6 students received the Sacrament of Confirmation. The children enjoyed listening to Bishop Robert talk about his connection with his grandparents and how the gifts of the Holy Spirit can become very important in our faith journey. Please enjoy the Photos taken at the sacrament ceremonies.
One group of children received their First Eucharist last Sunday and another group will celebrate this milestone next Sunday. Just a reminder there will be a short practise this afternoon (26/5/2021) at 3:30 pm in the church for the First Eucharist group on Sunday 30/5/2021.
We congratulate these children and their families for the sacramental journey they have undertaken.
Last Monday Mr Golightly, our school captains Sophie and Xavier and I had the privilege of attending a Mass to celebrate 200 Years of Catholic Education at St Patricks Cathedral. Today the Year 4- 6 children celebrated Mass with Father Quinlan. The whole school enjoyed a special cupcake to mark this historical milestone. We thank Reeves Bakery for supplying us with the Cupcakes for the children to enjoy. (Photos -Sophie and Xavier at the Cathedral Mass.) Tomorrow Year 1M will present the assembly on their take of 200 Years of Catholic Education - they have been working hard on some very difficult words!
Notes for the Preparation of the Sacrament of Reconciliation were given to the Year 3 students this week – if your child didn’t receive a note and is in Year 3 and up and would like to be part of this year’s programme please contact Mrs Moore on Janice.Moore@twb.catholic.edu.au or call into the office on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Prep
What a weekend of glorious weather. We hope you have been enjoying the lovely days. With the cooler mornings now upon us please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled so if they are misplaced they can be returned to their rightful owner. It does tend to warm up throughout the day.
Great progress has been made with students who consistently practise and reinforce the sight words learnt at school, at home. Remember to try and spot words in library books, home readers and other texts. Reading is about meaning and context. The more students see these words in text, greater connections and understandings are made. We are also concentrating on the reading strategy of Chunky Monkey. Looking for smaller words and word families in larger words helps decode. Don’t forget about the other strategies though, Lips the Fish, Stretchy Snake and Eagle Eyes.
Each week we are borrowing readers from the library. Please ensure these are read nightly. By the end of the week, students should be reading these books independently and fluently.
Revision is the key to success. Please remember to revise previously taught/learnt sight words, letters, sounds and numbers. This allows learning to move from short term memory to long term memory. Remember the more we practise the better we get.
In Maths we are concentrating on cementing our number knowledge to 10. This week we look at positional language. Try and use the words of above, between, under, beside, behind etc in everyday conversations.
The prep program beings at 8:30am daily. This is an important part of our day, helping to establish routines and settle and prepare for the day. Students that are consistently late miss out on these learning opportunities and it can make settling into morning routines harder.
This Friday we are off to the Dinosaur Festival at the Toowoomba Showgrounds. Thankyou for your returning all permission notes promptly. We are all very excited to travel on the bus. The bus is departing at 8:40am as our session begins at 9am. Please ensure you are on time.
Next Thursday we have our Athletics Carnival on the school oval. We are all practising during our Morning Fitness sessions on running on our toes, pumping our arms and starting correctly. Thanks to Mrs Salisbury and her band of helpers for running the trainings after school over the last two weeks.
Thanks,
Liz and Melita
Year 1
Last week, all children completed running records to gauge how their reading is progressing. It is so important that children are read to and read themselves as often as possible. Remembering to work with and practice the year one sight words each week helps build reading fluency. Last week, the children also completed their writing task which was writing a retell of the text "Too Many Pears". All the children worked hard to complete this task.
This week, we start a new cycle in both Maths and English. In Maths we will investigate fractions and the idea that half is one part of two equal parts. The children will explore what this means using both objects and collections.
In English, we will discover poetry and learn some of the elements that make up a poem: rhyme, rhythm, and alliteration. The children will read several poems to identify those three elements. They will then write their own poem.
In Geography, we have started making a map of the school and in Religion, we are discussing the gift of creation that God gave us and what this means for us.

Year 2
Welcome to Week 6! What a wonderful term it has been so far! The Year 2s are hard at work, producing some super writing about fairy tale characters. We are enjoying creating different personalities for characters, which we have found that sometimes can be quite challenging.
The date has been set for our Mad Hatter’s Tea Party! How exciting! It is Wednesday the 16th of June (Week 9). Children are asked to come dressed as a fairy tale character. The following day is the footy colours free dress day, so it will be an exciting week. We will be asking families to bring in a small plate of food to share. So that we don’t have too much sweet food, 2V students are to bring in desserts and 2D and 2TJ bring in savoury food. Our tea party will commence at around 12.30pm. Parents are welcome to drop the food in just before this time, already heated, or alternatively we are can heat it for you. The day will be filled with fun fairy tale activities and the tea party is just one part of an awesome day!
Reading testing is going well and we have seen great improvement across the year level. Our comprehension skills are improving, and we are getting better at finding answers in the text as well as making inferences about what the author is trying to tell us. Sometimes the answer isn’t right there, and we are asked to look beyond the text, at times giving our personal opinion based on what we have read. A great way of refining these skills to is to reflect with your child about what they have read at home. Get them to answer questions about what is directly in the text but also asking them ‘why’ questions, what caused…… In your opinion how….. What is the author’s purpose? What was the author’s opinion on this topic? These questions require them to think more deeply and gain more understanding of written text which is a great skill for the years ahead.
Enjoy the beautiful weather! Any questions or queries don’t hesitate to contact us!
Dennielle, Allyson, Sarah, Aleisha and Megan
Year 3
We enjoyed listening to ‘Give Me Some Space’ as part of National Simultaneous Storytime last week – it was amazing to watch the book being read from the International Space Station! The Year 3 students created two murals based on the book – these can be seen on our stairwell.
We also had a great time visiting the Empire Theatre to watch ‘The Midnight Gang’ last Tuesday – it was very interesting to see how the book was adapted for the stage and some of the changes that were made to the story and characters.
This week, we continue to look at the power of the Sun and the relationship between Earth and the Sun in Science. In HASS, we continue to look at the changes to our local community over time and some of the many groups that are a part of our community. In English, we have started investigating poetry and various language devices while in Maths we are looking at collecting data and displaying it as column and picture graphs.
Please note the information about next week’s Athletics Carnivals in the PE section of the newsletter.
Have a great week!
Angela, Sarah, Damian and Janice
Year 4
Second half of the Term already! The cold weather has certainly come with a vengeance- please ensure that all jackets and jumpers are clearly named. If past years have been a true indicator of Athletics Carnival weather – it will be cold next week! ? Students can wear coloured sporting house clothes on Monday next week and need to be dropped off at the O’Quinn Street Oval. Please ensure that if your child is allergic to school sunscreen, that they have plenty of their own. Many thanks to Mrs Salisbury for her organisation of this big carnival.
Congratulations to all students that made their Confirmation and First Eucharist last week and this week. We are very lucky to have Mrs Moore organise these sacraments for the children – Thank you, Moore! As we are in Week 6 and life continues to remain busy with assessment, please be mindful that being absent from school can impact on learning. Having said that, if you are unwell, please do not share it with us! A reminder for homework, that reading needs to be signed off by a parent and spelling words need to be written accurately each night to enhance learning.
We had a wonderful experience at the Empire Theatre last week and we are grateful to have such opportunities. Just letting you that in Week 10 on the last day of Term, all of Year 4 will be presenting the NAIDOC Assembly.
Suzanne, Toni and Garry
Year 5
Week 6 marks the downhill run to the school holidays, however there is no rest until we reach that finish line. We would again like to acknowledge all the wonderful work students did completing NAPLAN. Their focus, use of strategies, positive mindset, and support of each other has set them up for success. We were so impressed that through so cleverly attained pizza data we shouted all the students a slice.
Shortly our focus will be moving from HASS to Science. In science we will be exploring Earth's place in the solar system. Coincidentally a full Lunar Eclipse is set to take place tonight. Beginning at 6.46pm, with the total eclipse starting at approximately 9.14pm and lasting for 14minutes. I know that it is later in the evening but thought it may be an interesting phenomenon to observe.
Camp will be going ahead next term in week 6 from Wednesday 18th – Friday 20th August. Online forms will be sent out shortly for initial permission, with further camp details at the end of the term. As mentioned at the beginning of the year we strongly encourage all students to attend camp. If your child has not stayed away from home, we recommend students attend some sleepovers in the holidays. Camp is a wonderful bonding and growing experience for the students. We absolutely love seeing them face challenges, strengthen friendships, and grow in independence during this time.
Athletics carnival is next week. Monday is our first full day event, with throws happening Tuesday. O’Quinn street is often cold with the wind whipping across the oval. Please remember jumpers, hats, lunches and water bottles. Please see Mrs Salisbury’s PE section for more detailed information.
A reminder that homework expectations have changed. Students are encouraged to read 30 minutes per night, but no reading log is expected to be handed in. Students also have tasks given in Maths Online, Vocabulary A-Z and Reading Eggspress. Please refer back to the email sent for further information.
Finally, tomorrow we say goodbye to Miss K. Miss K has been doing a sensational job in 5M building her knowledge and skills of teaching. We wish her all the best as she finishes her studies.
Tim, Jess and Emily
A note from Natalya Kajewski
I’ve really enjoyed my time in 5M over the past 5 weeks. During this time, I have also had the opportunity to work with all Year 5 classes and everyone has been very welcoming.
In Maths, we have had the opportunity to collect data on our Tuckshop preferences and construct column graphs. Last week, we had the opportunity to apply our skills and calculate the perimeter and area of rectangles and squares to design a new garden bed for the school. In HASS, we have built upon our knowledge of the Eureka Stockade and how this influenced the formation of our Australian electoral processes. We had a go at correcting completing a ballot paper and getting to complete a vote at our 5M polling booth!
Finally, tomorrow we say goodbye to Miss K. Miss K has been doing a sensational job in 5M building her knowledge and skills of teaching. We wish her all the best as she finishes her studies.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Our Lady of Lourdes! Thankyou so much to Mrs McKay for welcoming me into your classroom, as well as Miss Packer and Mr Franzmann, for embracing me as part of the Year 5 team!

Year 6
Being Lourdes learners who listen is our theme up in Yr 6 for this fortnight. We joined together as a cohort last week to discuss how we can show we’re listening at school and this week we concentrated on how we can show we’re listening as global citizens. Students at Lourdes are encouraged to listen to the teacher, listen to each other and to value listening and learning from others. This is what it means to ‘Listen as a Learner.’
Well done to our wonderful cohort of students who organised a Get Active morning for our school last Wednesday. Students organised and participated on some fun activities with students from Prep – Year 6 before school. Rob the Nest, shooting hoops, an obstacle course and parachute games were lots of fun and proved to be a very popular way to start the school day.
Our school captains, Xavier and Sophie, accompanied Mr Golightly and Mrs Moore to St Patrick’s Cathedral on Monday as part of our diocesan celebrations for 200 years of Catholic Education in Australia. Students also celebrated attending a Mass here at Our Lady of Lourdes today.
Congratulations to Addi on her selection in the Darling Downs Cross Country team, and to Xavier and Matthew on their selection in the Darling Downs Soccer Team - fantastic. We’re looking forward to our athletics carnival next week. House captains and leaders are reminded that they are required to assist with set up for the carnival at O’Quinn Street Oval from 7.00 am on Monday 31st May. All students are also required to be dropped off and picked up from the oval on this day. Students will be transported to and from O’Quinn Street Oval on Tuesday 1st June for the throws events.
We’ve completed our first novel for this term. “Boy Overboard” was certainly a fabulous read. We completed a journal entry last week pretending to be on of the main characters – Bibi. Be sure to check in with your son or daughter and ask them if they know some Bibi bombs!!!! Students concentrated on including three different sentence starters with this piece of writing – red, white, and blue, adverb starts and preposition starts. We began reading “The Arrival” this week – a completely different read, as this one is a picture book!
Fractions, decimals and percentages will be our main focus for the next three weeks in Mathematics. Making connections with everyday life would be very advantageous for all students. Remember to talk about the Mathematics that we see all around us – percentage discounts at shops, money and decimals, fractions and pizzas!
Students completed Mazes during Technology lessons last week – the Mazes were A-MAZE-ing!!! Great thought was put into making each maze more difficult to conquer. We were very impressed with the number of students who requested feedback on how to achieve a higher grade and then took the time to add on the extras. Well done students.
Significant contributions made by refugees is our focus in HASS. Students are researching a refugee who has made a significant contribution to Australia. All work on this assessment will be completed at school.
On our assessment calendar for this fortnight, we have a pre-test in Mathematics (fractions and number lines), opening page to Girll Underground, Part C of Health, an art piece due at the end of Week 7, a formative test in Science and an image of Jesus in Religion. Remember to take home pads and revise before assessments.
Enjoy your fortnight.

All students in grade 3, who are born in 2013, will participate in the 2012, or 9 years, category for field events – High Jump and Long Jump ONLY. However, as they are not of appropriate age, they will not participate in Discus and Shot Put, nor will they be eligible for age championship points. They will simply be participating in these events to provide them with a valuable experience and to gain participation house points.
Nominating for Events – Grade 3-6 Students
All students will be required to participate in their respective sprint (80 or 100m), 200m, Long Jump, High jump, Shot Put and Discus (Except 8-year-olds). They will be automatically entered into the program for these events.
The 800m is the only event that students will need to nominate for. This information will be collected from the students during their PE classes.
Points Allocation - Individual Age-Championship & House Points
The following points will be awarded to individual athletes and their respective houses according to the overall places that they obtain in each event. Heats will be run for all track events (in the 9-12 year’s category), except for the 800m. One participation point will go towards each students’ individual and house tally following these heats. Subsequently, finals will then take place to award the major individual age championship points and house points, as below. These points will also be awarded to all 9-12 year old’s for field events.
1st Place – 10 points (Blue Ribbon), 2nd Place – 6 points (Red Ribbon), 3rd Place – 4 Points (Green Ribbon), 4th Place – 2 Points (Yellow Ribbon) and 1 Point - 5th place onwards.
80m, 100m & 200m Final Qualifications
All 80m, 100m and 200m events will be timed and the fastest 8-9 runners will proceed to the final. All students will be required to remain at the finish line until all heats in their age group have been run. Finalists will then be named, and they will proceed directly to the track marshals to run their respective final.
High Jump – Fosbury Flop
As per risk assessment guidelines, only students that have obtained a certificate of competence will be allowed to perform the Fosbury Flop. If your child would like to be considered, please contact me on the details below prior to the carnival day.
Medal Presentations
No presentations will be held at the oval. A special assembly will be conducted to present all age champions from 2012-2009 and winning houses on Thursday 3rd June at 2:00pm. As with Swimming and cross country, medallions will be presented to age champions in the 9-12 years age category.
Catholic Carnival and West Zone Carnival Team Selection
Following the school Track & Field Carnival, Our Lady of Lourdes will be selecting a team to represent the school at the Catholic Carnival and West Zone Carnival. Only students born 2009-2012 are eligible for team selection. OLOL are limited to the following numbers of entries in both carnivals:
80/100 & 200m |
3 students per age group |
800m |
2 students per age group |
Field events |
2 students per age group. |
Please Note: Only students born 2009-2011 are eligible to participate in the Shot Put and the Discus at zone level.
Students born 2016-2013 are also offered the opportunity to participate in the track events at the Catholic Track & Field Carnival. The top 3 runners in each age group will be selected.
More information regarding the school track & field team will be made available at a later date.
Absence from the school carnival
If your child is unable to attend one or both days of the school Track & Field Carnival, and they would like to be considered for the school team, please contact me on the details below. The school will grant exemptions on the same grounds as Darling Downs School Sport. These grounds for exemption are as follows:
- Medical condition on the day of the carnival & they have a medical certificate.
- Attending another Zone, Toowoomba, Darling Downs, Queensland School Sport or School Sport Australia Championships or equivalent in community sports.
- Bereavement or compassionate reasons
If one or more of these conditions have been met, the school will organize to record times and distances for the affected student, preferably prior to the carnival, as a means of team selection. It is important to note that these times and distances will only be considered for placement in the school team, and not to go towards Age Championship Points. To be awarded age champion the student must attend the school carnival. Please contact me if you require further clarification.
House Colour Dress
Students in Grades 3-6 are required to wear their house colours on day 1 & 2, and Prep – Grade 2 students are required to wear theirs on day 3. Please be mindful when choosing your clothing for the day. It is important that what you wear does not restrict your movement and is appropriate for competing in.
Canteen
There will be a canteen open on day 1. Lollies will not be available for purchase until after 12:00pm. Please remind your children about making sensible purchases. Children will not be allowed to purchase sports drinks or soft drinks.
Helpers/Volunteers
If you are available to help with marshaling, timekeeping, scoring, amongst other jobs, please email me on the address below. It is not possible to run the event successfully without the help of our parents. Thank you in anticipation of your assistance.
OLOL Track & Field Carnival Medallions – Sponsorship
In previous years various families and businesses have donated the Age-champion medallions to be given to the children. All donations given will be acknowledged in the school newsletter and carnival program. If you would like to contribute to the purchase cost of the medallions or know someone that might like to, please email me ASAP on the details below.
