Faith & Religious Education News

It’s Spring!

Welcome to Spring – it is amazing to see the pop of colour appearing in the school garden. Mrs Broderick and her merry band of gardeners have been getting the school gardens ready for the Carnival of Flowers judging. We wish them all the best of luck in the competition.

APMI Retreat

Mrs Moore went to the Bunya Mountains for an APMI Retreat on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in Week 7. The Retreat was led by Brother Damian Price, Tawana Carmody, our First Nations Education Leader and Paul Grealy, a member of the TCSO Mission and Identity Team. The APMI’s experienced guided prayer and meditation with the backdrop of the natural environment of the Bunya Mountains.

Our Lady of the Southern Cross Diocesan Mass

On Monday our Year 6 Captains represented OLOL at the Diocesan Mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral. We thank the St Ursula’s College for providing us with a bus and driver to transport us to the Cathedral. Bishop Ken Howell celebrated the Mass on the Feast Day of Our Lady of the Southern Cross. Mary, the Mother of Jesus – is also called Our Lady of the Southern Cross - the Patron Saint of the Toowoomba Diocese.

Our next gathering for the Sacrament of 1st Reconciliation is on Tuesday 9th September at 7 pm. A plan for the seating in the church will be emailed from the parish. The children will have a practise of the ceremony during school time on Monday 8th September and will be able to guide their chosen guests to their seats. We will have short final meeting at 3:30 pm in the church on Monday 8th  September to check seating, certificates, and final questions. Candidates and their chosen guests are asked to be at the church on Tuesday 9th  September by 6:40 pm. The children need to know their “Act of Contrition/Sorry” prayer. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the OLOL Parish (07 4634 1453 Monday – Friday 9.00am – 1.00pm) or email  ourladyoflourdesparish@twb.catholic.org.au

Loving the Arts at Lourdes

Our “Loving the Arts at Lourdes” is a wonderful community event coming up on Friday 12th September starting at 5:30 pm– Mrs Simmons, Mrs Garcha, Mrs Rosier, the artists, and performers are working hard to share their work. We look forward to the OLOL School Choir singing our new School Song. We thank Mrs Rosier for writing and recording this song – her talent is awe-inspiring.

Crazy Sock Day

We have our Crazy Socks Coloured Clothes Day on Thursday 18th September. Wear your craziest socks, with your sun safe coloured clothes, suitable footwear, brimmed hat and bring along a gold coin for Catholic Mission. Also, remember to bring in a pair of new socks for our school donation to The Base Soup Kitchen. Socks can be sent in at any time. It is amazing the sense of dignity someone feels when they have a new pair of socks to wear. Please support both these initiatives to encourage our students to be thoughtful Global Citizens for our local and global communities.
